Imaging the stars as never before
By upgrading existing Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope infrastructure, we plan to build the largest optical telescope on Earth, with a resolution equivalent to a telescope of the size of 70 soccer fields (0.5 km²).

Intensity Interferometry
By correlating the time in which photons arrive to the telescopes with nanosecond precission, we are able to perform interferometric measurements.

Camera upgrades
Small modifications to the camera electronics are needed, in order to extract the raw, nanosecond-scale signals needed for this technique to succeed.

Correlator
By using state of the art technologies developed during the surge of AI, we will validate the first 12-telescope intensity interferometry correlator.

Unrivaled resolution
If MicroStars objectives are achieved, the first km-scale interferometers will be a reality.

Real-Time Imaging
The project will validate the first real-time intensity interferometry correlator, with imaging capabilities minutes after data taking.

Increasing telescopes operation
IACTs are not able to operate during bright-moon periods, while Interferometry observations are perfectly possible, increasing the operation time by 400h/year.
Our Goal
Upgrading current and planned imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes to build the first km-scale optical telescope on Earth.
